What is Relay for Life?

Relay for Life is a worldwide movement that spreads key messages about cancer and raises much-needed funds for cancer services. Launched by the American Cancer Society in 1984, Relay for Life is now held in more than 20 countries around the world. Penang pioneered the Relay in Malaysia in 2005. The annual Relay campaign and fundraising take place over 4 months and culminate in the Relay event at Stadium Olahraga, USM. There are now Relays in Kuala Lumpur (since 2007)and Melaka (since 2011).

 Why should I join Relay?

You probably know someone suffering from cancer. Cancer is one of the major causes of death in our country and is on the rise. But many people remain ignorant about cancer and are scared by it. By spreading the key messages, you can help reduce the risk of getting cancer.

 Getting involved?

People can join Relay For Life as a team of 10 people (preferably) or as individuals. For a small fee, you can register your participation and get an information pack and the Relay t-shirt. You can then help spread the message “Fighting Cancer Together” or you can become a sponsor of Relay For Life. There are many different sponsorship packages available.
